Bale, Ronaldo Score As Madrid Defeat Basel

Real Madrid have risen from their painful 1-2 loss to Athletico Madrid over the weekend and beaten Basel 5-1.
The Spanish side went ahead thanks to a Marek Suchy’s own goal and then went on a roll, scoring three times in six minutes.

Gareth Bale had scored after Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo  worked him in.
Then Ronaldo and James Rodriguez went on to tap in two goals from close range.
Derlis Gonzalez then scored for the visiting team but Madrid came back and scored through Karim Benzema.

Madrid boss Carlos Ancelotti had applied little changes despite widespread criticisms.
He introduced Marcelo and Nacho and it proved pivotal as Nacho played a vital part in the 14 minute, as he raced on Rodriguez’s lovely backheel and fired in a low cross that Suchy could only direct into his own net.
Earlier Basel captain Marco Streller had thought he scored as shot into the side-netting from a narrow angle.
Real Madrid are the defending champions of the UEFA champions league after defeating Athletico Madrid at the finals.

NFF Is Responsible For Keshi - Sports Minister

Following critical reception of the Super Eagles last two games against Congo and South Africa, Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo has said that the NFF is responsible for the coach.
coach_keshi.jpgHe revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation decision, if they want Keshi or not will not be influenced by outside forces.

With the Eagles qualification for Morocco 2015 Nations cup going badly having acquired only 1 point from a possible 6.
Fans and football critics have been asking for Keshi head, questioning his team selection and tactics and his interest in coaching the team.
The Sports Ministry’s media assistant said: “It is up to the NFF to decide who handles the Eagles. The Minister only requested that Keshi should handle the two games, since there was a vacuum.
“He offered to pay for the services rendered by coach Keshi. But now that the two games are done with, it is squarely at the feet of the NFF to decide”.

After the game, Keshi had stated that he is unaware of any future plans, as he has not been given any contract yet.
Keshi said: “I’m not sure yet. I was just brought in to help manage these two games. We have finished them now, so we’ll see what happens. If we (he and the Nigerian federation) come to an agreement, yes I’ll stay. If no, I’ll depart. Let’s see how it turns out when I get home.”
Super Eagles now have just a point after losing 2-3 to Congo and drawing 0-0  against South Africa.

No Eagles Without Mikel — Keshi

Keshi in training

Nigeria national team coach Stephen Keshi says he still believes that John Obi Mikel is a vital cog in the Super Eagles side, despite the midfielder’s lack of game time at his club, Chelsea.
Mikel has not been overly influential during Nigeria’s first two 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying games, which have seen the Super Eagles picking up just a single point from their opening two matches against Congo (2-3) and South Africa (0-0).
Against Bafana Bafana, Mikel was outplayed by Man of the Match Andile Jali, the 24-year-old Belgium-based midfielder who South Africa will build their future around.
It was Jali’s speed, tenacity and skill on the ball that won him most of the one on one battles against the Super Eagles
midfielders.

Mikel appears to having fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, having only had 23 minutes of action so
far this season for the big-spending London club, but Keshi remains adamant that the 27-year-old is an important part of the national team.
“Just because he is not playing in his team (Chelsea), that does not mean I cannot use him in my team, that’s the coaches’ choice,” Keshi said after
Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw with Bafana Bafana in Cape Town.
“But in my team, if I think that he is good shape, with the wealth of experience he has, all his years in the Champions League, I think he’s very important for us in the team, and we just have to make the best of the situation.”

Obuh Backs Keshi

John Obuh
Former Nigeria Under- 17 and 20 Coach John Obuh has jumped to the defence of Stephen Keshi’s tactics after the Super Eagles shock 3-2 loss to Congo in Calabar.
The Enugu Rangers gaffer admitted the loss is a setback but insists Keshi’s coaching ability should not be judged on the game.
“I accept the loss is hard to take but faulting Keshi’s tactics is way over the board, sometimes there is little a coach can do when players fail to turn up in game,” he told SL10.ng.
“It’s easy for fans to crucify a coach after such defeat at home, but judging Keshi, who brought Nigeria football out of the wilderness it found herself by a game is harsh, very harsh”
However, Obuh insisted the coaching crew and the boys will have no chance but to respond in their next game against South Africa to win back public trust and support.

Iheanacho enjoying his time at Colombus Crew – Officials

Kelechi-Iheanacho1

Kelechi Iheanacho is enjoying his time  training with MLS side Colombus Crew, officials have said.
Colombus coach Gregg Berhalter said the Nigeria youngster, who is on the books of EPL champions Manchester City, is shaping up at his latest base, but there are no plans to sign him up.
“He’s enjoying himself,” Berhalter said. “The guys have embraced him; he’s doing a good job.”
The move to the Crew was brokered by one of Berhalter’s old USMNT friends Claudio Reyna, the director of football operations at New York City Football Club, the MLS expansion club that is partially-owned by the same group that runs English Premier club Manchester City.
“Basically, we’re providing training from an individual…He’s here getting fit, getting sharp, training in a good atmosphere where he can learn. That’s what it’s about,” disclosed the Colombus coach.
“[Iheanacho] wanted a place to train. [Manchester City] approached us. … He wanted to play at a club and train, and I guess we have similar philosophies, values, so we said we’d be glad to help out.”
Iheanacho, who is staying in a hotel in Columbus, will be around until mid-October, according to Berhalter.

NFF leadership tussle shameful – Kanu

Kanu Nwankwo

Two-time African Footballer of the Year, Nwankwo Kanu, has said those behind the leadership tussle rocking Nigeria ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Chris Giwa has insisted he was voted as the new Nigeria Football Federation’s president and will not vacate the federation’s office despite a looming FIFA ban on the country.
However, FIFA has maintained it do not recognise Giwa as president.
“All those involved in this crisis have to be ashamed of themselves because they are really killing football in Nigeria,” africanFootball.com quoted Kanu as saying on the crisis rocking the country’s football.
“There is no peace. Nobody understands what’s going on and the earlier this problem is solved, the better.”
Some observers have even blamed the crisis for the Super Eagles 2-3 loss to Congo in Calabar.
“The boys concentration was affected by the crisis as much as we do not wish to admit this,” said Eagles official Emmanuel Attah.

Robert Lewandowski Signs 5-year Contract With Bayern Munich

lewandowski dortmund to bayern munich 500x346 Robert Lewandowski Signs 5 year Contract With Bayern Munich
The end of the saga is here.
Robert Lewandowski has agreed to a 5-year contract with Bayern Munich that will keep the Polish international donning red through the 2018/2019 season.
The 25-year-old Polish international who scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, co-leading the Bundesliga with 11, is reportedly set to make €11M a season on this new deal, a massive raise over the €5M he earned this season at Borussia Dortmund. He will join the Rekordmeisters this summer on a Bosman transfer.
No matter your opinion on the idea of Bayern Muncih leeching talent from within the Bundesliga, getting arguably one of the best strikers in Europe on a free transfer is a massive coup for what is already the best team in Europe. It’s a move that will keep the Bavarian-based side as Germany’s best and one of Europe’s best for a long time.
The Lewandowski transfer comes with questions raised for Mario Mandzukic’s long term place at Bayern Munich. A question that has already seen the international’s agent respond that Mandzukic’s place is at Bayern Munich and that he expects to challenge Lewandowski. Even so, the rumors are going to continue swirling.
Now all that’s needed is a number so the kit buying can commence in earnest.
With Lewandowski in Bayern, Which Team do you think can Stop Bayern Munich?

Roberto Carlos tips Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or

Roberto Carlos tips Ronaldo for Ballon d'Or

The former Real Madrid full-back believes the Portugal star deserves this year's prize and has backed Gareth Bale to become "one of the best" at Santiago Bernabeu

Former Real Madrid and Brazil left-back Roberto Carlos has revealed his confidence that Cristiano Ronaldo can beat the likes of Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to the 2013 Ballon d'Or.

The Portuguese sensation has netted 62 goals in 2013 already has 24 this season, although a lack of silverware with Madrid in 2012-13 could hamper his chances of lifting the prestigious individual prize for the first time since 2008.

Roberto Carlos, however, insists there is no-one more deserving of the prize than the 28-year-old attacking star.

"Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d'Or," he told teinteresa.es. "And I think this year he is going to get it.
"What Ronaldo is doing, in getting goals so regularly, should be rewarded. I think he’s going to win."

Roberto Carlos went on to lavish praise on Ronaldo's new team-mate Gareth Bale and backed the Welshman to become a global star at Santiago Bernabeu.

"Bale is one of the best in the world. He proved that in England and has already started doing some great things at Real Madrid," said the Brazilian.

"I'm sure he's going to be one of the best. He's also young and has room for even more improvement."

Finally, the Sivasspor boss believes Carlo Ancelotti's side will reclaim the Liga title from Barcelona this season if they continue to build on their recent strong form.

"If Madrid play to their best, which they are beginning to do, then I think they will win the League," he added.

"They have a good squad with new, young players, and others with more experience. I think the project looks great."

UEFA Punishes CSKA, Part Of Arena Khimki To Be Closed In Their Next Champions League Home Game

European football governing body UEFA has ordered CSKA Moscow to have part of their Arena Khimki Stadium (sector D) closed during the club’s next Champions League home fixture. This comes as a punishment for the Russian champions for the racist behaviour of their fans during October 23 Champions League match against Manchester City. Ivory Coast international, Yaya Toure, complained of racist abuse inside the Moscow stadium during the Group D encounter, adding that he notified Romanian referee, Ovidou Hategan, who officiated the encounter, about a ‘Monkey Chant’ by a section of the fans.
UEFA pushed through new anti-racism proposals earlier this year which highlights the body’s zero tolerance on racism. A UEFA statement concerning racism and its punishment read: “The fight against racism is a high priority for UEFA”. “All forms of racist behaviour are considered serious offences against the disciplinary regulations and are punished with the most severe sanctions.” It introduced a measure whereby if supporters were found guilty then there would be partial closure of the stadium. If there is a second offence by the club’s supporters there will be full closure with a minimum of 50,000 euros (£ 42,700) fine. “Under the regulations, a second offence of racial abuse concerning spectators could result in a full stadium closure,” the UEFA statement on racism added. Meanwhile referee Hategan was absolved of blame by UEFA followi ng accusations he may not have followed the correct procedure. A UEFA spokeman told BBC Sport the referee, after being informed by Toure of allegations regarding racist abuse, passed the message to the 4th official who then informed the venue director, a UEFA appointment, who could have then made an announcement to the crowd. The venue director claimed he hadn’t heard anything from the crowd and failed to read an announcement. UEFA says the man has now been relieved of his duties.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure says arch-rivals Manchester United are ‘really struggling’ to retain their title

yaya-toure-manchester-city-1024_3024250

The Red Devils swept to the Premier League crown in 2012/13, offering the perfect send-off to outgoing boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
A changing of the guard at Old Trafford has not run smoothly, though, with new manager David Moyes enduring a baptism of fire.
There have been signs in recent outings that the tide is turning, but a slow start has left the defending champions eight points off the pace.
Toure feels United will find it difficult to bridge that gap, with Liverpool considered to be a greater threat to the usual suspects in the battle for top flight supremacy.
He said in The Sun: “United will find it hard to defend the title since they have a new manager and are really struggling.

“Liverpool are a big threat at the moment because they have a strong squad and their strikers – Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge – are scoring goals at will.”
City ended their latest outing empty-handed, leaving them just two points better off than United and with goalkeeper Joe Hart coming in for renewed criticism.
The England man endured an afternoon to forget during a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday, but Toure is convinced he remains the right man to provide City’s last line of defence.
He added: “Joe is a top keeper who gives his all to the team.”
